Do you ever talk to yourself? This is actually a good thing! We all have an internal dialogue. This inner voice, or self-talk, is the way we communicate with our inner self. Our thoughts are the main source of our emotions and moods. When our self-talk is positive, experts believe that our quality of life is greatly enhanced.
I coach my clients to channel positive imagery. Avoid any negative talk. Keeping your internal dialogue on a positive level has many beneficial attributes to your life. Positive self-talk comes naturally for some; however, many people need to work on cultivating a positive outlook. With practice and focus you can develop a positive mind set and keep your internal dialogue productive.
Here are some ways we can we use self-talk to enhance our lives and discover our full potential:
• Stress reduction – Stress and anxiety are aggravating factors that can lead to cardiovascular diseases. Positive self-talk can reduce stress and lower your risk of suffering from a variety of problems.
• Health benefits – Research has shown that a positive outlook may contribute to increased longevity.
• Confidence – Positive self-talk is a powerful tool to boost self-confidence.
• Depression – Positivity can result in a lower rate of depression.
Positive self-talk can also help to improve our work performance. Those who master positive self-talk typically are more motivated and productive. This type of reflective thought is supportive and affirming not only to ourselves, but to others.
When you are interviewing for a new job, or title, it is important to be in a clear, positive head space. The power of a positive mind set allows you to present your best self.
Make a habit of practicing positive self-talk daily. Find positivity in your life and surround yourself with positive people. Recognize the things you are grateful for. Positive self-talk will have benefits to your mind and for your body.
